Birthday Blooms Cut-Out Card

I am really digging the floral bouquet in this Birthday Blooms set.  So pretty!  To fully enjoy it’s beauty, I stamped the bouquet in Tuxedo Black, water-colored the flowers, and then fussy cut the bouquet out!

I used the blender pens to color in the flower…Real Red for the blooms, Watermelon Wonder for the large flower, and Garden Green for the stems and leaves.  Behind the saying, I strung some silver metallic thread onto the dimensionals before attaching the piece to my card.

Party Pants Birthday Card

Gals, I’ll be honest with you.  When I heard the name of the new Sale-a-bration set, Party Pants, I was seriously laughing out loud!  Hilarious right?  And, just perfect for many occasions.  Who doesn’t need another saying set!?!?  I decided to create a simple layout for this card and let the set speak for itself.  So much fun!  I also used a strip of the Metallics Glitter Tape, a Sale-A-Bration item as well.  Each of these items, the Party Pants Stamp Set or the Metallics Glitter Tape is free with a $50 order!  Or, $100 to get both!IMG_6565

I especially enjoy a good layered card.  And, sometimes it takes a little working to get things just right.  Here are the dimensions I used for my layered balloon section:

Tip Top Taupe rectangle is 2 1/2″ x 4 1/4″

Basic Gray rectangle is 2 1/4″ x 4″

Very Vanilla rectangle is 2 1/8″ x 3 7/8″

If you’re coming to my #imbringingbirthdaysback card class on Saturday, here’s a sneak peek at one of your cards!  You’ll be making this one!

Here’s what you’ll need:

141327 Party Pants Stamp Set (FREE w/ order of $50 or more through 3/31/2016)

141020 Metallics Glitter Tape (FREE w/ order of $50 or more through 3/31/2016)

101650 Very Vanilla Cardstock ($8.50)

138336 Tip Top Taupe Cardstock ($7.00)

Embossed Watercolor Card – Technique Tuesday

How do you fancy a Technique Tuesday addition to the blog?  Whenever I post on a Tuesday, I will showcase a new technique to try!  OK, thanks for the round of applause, we’ll get started! 😉

IMG_6549

To master the watercolor technique, it is imperative that you use Watercolor Paper.  Stampin’ Up sells their version for $5.00 for 5 sheets.  For this card, I cut one piece into 4 pieces, so I thought it was a worthwhile investment.  The watercolor paper has a bit more texture and is thicker to absorb the water created during water-coloring.  It won’t bend or wrinkle as much as normal cardstock will.  My pieces were 3″ x 4 1/2″.

IMG_6519

So, you’ll need to pick a greeting or something that you’ll be water-coloring over. I chose this Happy Birthday from Happy Birthday Everyone, a hostess set from the annual catalog. Using Versamark, stamp the greeting onto your watercolor paper and cover with embossing powder of your choice.  I used Silver.  Emboss away!  Heat until the powder turns glossy and doesn’t brush away.

Excuse the messy desk in the background!  I thought about skipping that photo, but we could all use a little more honesty and openness right?  I’m feeling the love, folks.

Now you’re ready for the fun part!  Water-coloring! Using the large Aqua Painter and 3 different ink colors with varying levels of color intensity (I chose Night of Navy, Pacific Point, and Tempting Turquoise.)  Pick one corner to start in with your most intense color, in this case Night Of Navy.  Ink your aqua painter using the ink on the lid of the pad.  Brushing back and forth across the paper, keep moving down to get lighter and lighter…you should be covering about 1/3 of the paper.  Then move on to your next color and next.  The more water you use, the lighter and less intense the colors will be.

Once you’re finished, let dry before attaching to your card!  I love the unique look of this card!

Here’s what you’ll need:

139958 Happy Birthday Everyone ($9.00) this happens to be a hostess-only set so you’ll need to have a party or place over a $150 order to purchase this one!

133364 Silver Fancy Foil Designer Vellum ($11.00)

100867 Night of Navy Cardstock ($7.00)

122959 Watercolor Paper ($5.00)

102283 Versamark Pad ($7.50)

126970 Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Pad ($6.50)

126951 Pacific Point Classic Stampin’ Pad ($6.50)

Something for Baby Card

I was motivated by a large card order from one of the stores that carries my cards to make some baby cards.  I knew I wanted something a little edgy, a little more brightly colored than your typical baby card.  Paired with black and white, I chose Melon Mambo for my girly baby card and Mint Macaron for my boyish baby card.  Confession time: I chose Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron because I knew that I wanted to use the matching Baker’s Twine Combo Pack in the Occasions Catalog for a clothesline.  Seriously, though, this Something for Baby Set has the cutest little baby things ever and paired with the die cuts can be cut out to perfection!  Lovin’ the polka dotted tie for the boy!

For You Everyday Card

OK, so I’m part of a team of ladies that gets together with many other fine ladies at our local library to create cards together.  This is the one that I came up for my last time in the library!  I wanted a card that wasn’t specific to any occasion, a JUST BECAUSE card, because those come in handy, don’t they? 🙂  The “for you” hidden within the Birthday Blooms Clear Mount Stamp Set is perfect for those times.  I love the scriptiness of the “for” combined with the standard box “YOU.”  Beautiful!  Don’t you agree?

IMG_6494

I’m such a fan of stamping on top of Designer Series Paper.  I think it gives such nice depth to your card and is super easy to come together!

IMG_6496

A little hint for you should you choose to create this: Stamp your big flower first in a light color (for this card, I chose Pool Party).  Then, stamp your saying in a coordinating, but darker color next (I chose Island Indigo).  Then attach your Typeset Designer Series paper to the card base.  Finally, punch the sides of the card out with a 1/2″ circle punch.  Just make sure to only slide the punch in halfway and line up with the top of the card so it’ll line up on both sides. 🙂  Fun little touch, right?

Then you can go crazy with your embellishments!

Here’s what you’ll need:

140658 Birthday Blooms Clear Mount Stamp Set ($19.00)

126982 Pool Party Classic Stampin’ Pad ($6.50)

126986 Island Indigo Classic Stampin’ Pad ($6.50)

122923 Island Indigo Cardstock ($7.00)

133704 Typeset Designer Series Paper ($13.00)

119869 1/2″ Circle Punch ($6.00)

104199 Thread Linen ($4.50)

119247 Pearls Basic Jewels ($5.00)

Vintage Sky is the Limit Valentine

I am going to share with you my husband’s Valentines card for this year.  I know what you’re thinking…what if he sees it before you give it to him!  Well, let me assure you that won’t be happening as 1) I’d be surprised if he remembered that I have a blog and 2) he’s rarely on the internet and 3) if he is on the internet, he’s totally not searching for handstamped card ideas. 🙂

IMG_6499

I really liked this set that SU! brought to us for Sale-a-bration, I’m just sad it’s leaving so soon! This Sky is the Limit set is only available through tomorrow, free with any $50 and up purchase.  If you like it, you better step on it! haha

I wanted to give this card a vintage feel so I used two different browns (Crumb Cake and Early Espresso along with some gold (Gold Wink of Stella, Gold embossing and the button).  I’m really happy with the way it turned out in the end.

I used a fun technique to get the Crumb Cake block on the center of my Whisper White Cardstock.  I used an actual Stampin’ Up clear block, YES the one you typically mount stamps on.  But, this time I used it as my actual stamp!  Ink the block up carefully so that it looks covered but not extra ink-y or splotchy.  Once you are happy with the ink on the block.  Press onto your cardstock.  I prefer to use a Stampin’ Pierce Mat underneath my grid paper as a little “give” to allow the block to stamp correctly.

To add to the vintage look, I colored in my airplane with the Gold Wink of Stella Brush!  I just love the look these pens add to a project.  Also used it to brush hap-hazardly across my “You Send my Soaring” banner and colored in a few hearts from the background paper.  The airplane and the saying banner is popped up with dimensionals to give a more 3-D look.

Hope you enjoy!
